Puerto Natales is so far removed from the rest of the world. And this is the end. The only place beyond Puerto Natales is Antarctica. It’s the center of Chilean Patagonia and 250 kilometers from Punta Arenas.
The design of the hotel, by Germán del Sol, the great Chilean architect who had a hand in other properties in Torres del Paine and the Atacama Desert. From the outside it is simply stunning. An experiment in modernism that takes root in local architecture. It’s one level, but long and there are windows, fire pits, and lounging areas everywhere.
REMOTA a place for total leisure time. The resort is located in Puerto Natales, 255 kms from Punta Arenas and 150 kms. from Torres del Paine National Park. The hotel is located in front of “Seno de Ultima Esperanza”.
The inspiration is to offer comfortable and mysterious excursions where our visitors could perceive Patagonian lands splendor. Daily our guests will be able to choose an excursion on small groups accompanied with a bilingual guide. So to live a complete Patagonia experience, we also have the National Park Torres del Paine. ACCOMMODATIONS
Hotel Remota has 72 rooms, all with a view of Ultima Esperanza bay, the Balmaceda glacier and the Paine Mountain Range. Each room has 344 square feet and has a private bath, direct dial phone and safe. Each of the rooms has floor to ceiling windows and private baths. The rooms are cozy and don’t lack in luxury. There’s no cable TV, no phone, no internet. Modern civilization just hasn’t reached the very ends of the earth yet.
AMENITIES & FACILITIES
Hotel Remota offers a heated swimming pool, a Finnish sauna, an open air Jacuzzi and massages on call.
You have access, by kayak, to see the Chilean fjords and glaciers. You can watch Magellenic penguins nest and play. You can take guided tours of Torres del Paine National Park. For something more relaxed you can visit a local farm. The hotel has bilingual guides available that are ready to take you anywhere Tierra del Fuego has to offer. In addition, there are two meeting halls: 1900 and 1,470 square feet respectively as well as a restaurant and bar. There is an additional complex with an indoor pool, sauna and Jacuzzi.

What to bring?
The hotel has a relaxed casual atmosphere so the proper clothing to wear is whatever makes you feel at ease. We recommend that for the outings you dress in layers and include comfortable walking shoes or boots, warm jacket, pants, sunglasses, gloves, hat for the wind, sunscreen and lip balm. And don’t forget your swimsuit for the pool!
What is the best time of year to visit Patagonia?
This depends on the interests of each particular guest. Patagonia is a vast region and Puerto Natales, where the Fundador Hotel is located, has a variable climate. Due to the strong winds, in a single day it is not unusual to have rain, then sunshine to cloudy and overcast. In other words….the four seasons packed into one day! The windiest time of year is from November to February where the days are also longer. From March to May the autumn leaves display a rainbow of colors and from June to August, our winter season brings shorter days making for a less crowded, stronger and more profound encounter with nature. September brings the blooms of spring lasting until November where we also witness the birth of the new guanacos. As you can see, each part of the year has its own magical appeal.

You may choose to fly into Punta Arenas on either Lan Chile, Sky Airlines, Aerolineas Argentinas with an average of 4 flights daily. At the airport, a Hotel Remota staff will be waiting for you. There are also 2 border crossings: paso Rio Don Guillermo (24hr transit) connecting Argentina with Cerro Castillo on the Chilean side and Dorotea (24hr transit) and Casas Viejas (8am – 10pm) that connect with Puerto Natales.
