Set on the Island of Vanua
Levu, Fiji's second largest island, Jean-Michel Cousteau
Fiji Islands Resort is one of the most eco-friendly and
culturally stimulating resorts you will find. The resort is
nestled in a once flourishing coconut plantation, surrounded
by lush tropical rainforests and exotic gardens. The 25
spacious, private, authentic Fijian style bures are
beautifully appointed, offering guests maximum comfort and
style.
Brilliant for families, the resort operates "Bula Camp" -
Here children explore and learn about Fijian culture, the
environment and the natural world around them. Children are
delighted with this fun and stimulating program. And so are
parents, since Bula Club is complimentary.
However, just as the resort caters to families, it equally
caters to couples, honeymooners and those seeking an
adventurous holiday. Dive (or undertake a dive course) with
highly trained diver instructors and marine biologists in
waters that have been rated "among the healthiest and most
biologically abundant in the tropics" (LA Times Magazine);
partake in an early morning yoga class to relax the mind and
soul; go hiking to waterfalls; or simply relax and sooth
your body with one of the varied spa treatments available.
Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort - the
perfect place for inspiration and rediscovering the
pleasures of life. |

ACCOMMODATION |
Built on
the site of a former coconut plantation, the 17-acre resort
features 25 spacious bures.
Built of local timbers, these traditional thatched Fijian
bungalows provide privacy, comfort and personalized service.
Each bure features rattan furnishings, king-size bed with
custom-made mattress, small sitting area with desk, wooden
louvered windows, overhead fan, and private deck with garden
or ocean views.
Oversized bathrooms in warm Italian tile offer double sink
basins, separate shower, and hairdryer. Other amenities
include minibar with complementary beverages and snacks,
French press coffee maker, plush robes and tropical flowers.
To ensure a serene environment, the bures have no telephones
or televisions.
Point Reef Villas - We are proud to announce the
first of the Point Reef Villas. This luxurious and private
Villa features the best of resort living in accommodations
that are a match for anything available worldwide.
Redefining the boundaries of indoor and outdoor living, the
gracious villa combines contemporary style and natural
elegance with traditional Fijian architecture and ambience.
The result -- featuring the finest of materials, amenities
and views of the sea -- gives discriminating travelers a
luxurious and comfortable 'home away from home' that most
visitors find hard to leave.
Bure Features: Walking past the resort's picturesque
new lagoons, villa guests approach from a curving stone
pathway landscaped with lush foliage and tropical flowers
and enter up several stairs. Inside there is an expansive,
al fresco hardwood deck of recycled wood product. A
comfortable table for four provides great views from every
angle -- of the villa's interior, outdoor amenities and the
nearby beach and ocean, just steps away.
The villa's interior also features air-conditioning and
Internet access!
Continuing indoors, one enters what is best described as a
luxurious personal bathing suite, featuring a generous
soaking tub with whirlpool, two indoor showerheads, chaise
lounge and two vanity bowls the color of sea-glass topped by
gilded mirrors that reach to the roofline. Because much of
this area's floor and walls are covered with imported stone,
there is no need for shower enclosures. This entire space
looks through 10-foot tall floor-to-roof windows to private
tropical gardens just beyond. The lush landscaping is
highlighted by an 11-foot waterfall. Outdoors off to the
side is another shower; continuing further around the
enclosed exterior of the villa, there is an outdoor café
table, ideal for morning coffee or afternoon tea.
A separate, enclosed lavatory overlooks the outdoor garden.
From this spa area, across from the soaking tub, one ascends
three stone steps to the stunning master bedroom suite with
custom-designed furnishings. On either side of the wide
stairway are Vesi wood armoires with elegant curved fronts
and brass handles. In the center of the room, one step up,
is the hardwood, four-poster canopy bed, draped on all sides
with iridescent gauze fabric, and topped with a multi-hued
bedcover and accenting pillows. Above the king size bed, a
ceiling fan adds ambience and a breeze. On each side of the
bed are night tables providing storage and more -- in one, a
mini-bar and refrigerator offers complimentary wines, other
beverages and snacks; in the other, there are a room safe
and quality sound system with a selection of music. Along
this wall are distinctive sconces and an imposing wooden
sculpture by a skilled Fijian craftsman. The room also
features a writing desk, comfortable reading chair, accent
table with candelabra and mirror.
Just beyond the master bedroom suite is the upper level of
the deck, separated from the lower deck by three steps and a
banquette planted with greenery and flowers. On the higher
level are two upholstered chaises, side table and stainless
steel barbecue. Off to the side is a covered king size day
bed. The entire deck area overlooks the large private pool
-- about 20 feet long, 15 feet wide and four feet deep --
and the sea beyond.
Descending the stairs and crossing the lower deck, one
enters a separate living and dining space (or second
bedroom). This area features comfortable seating areas for
conversation or drinks; kitchen amenities including
stovetop, sink, refrigerator and all necessities for coffee
and tea; and two sets of louvered double-doors to close off
the room. A separate bathroom offers a private outdoor
shower and garden area. The windows and doors on three sides
of the living room overlook the deck, pool or beach. Just
past the pool is a second waterfall with steps leading to
the villa's private stone patio and beachfront beyond.
Gardenview bures - Gardenview bures overlook tropical
foliage, colorful flowers and exotic plants. Each bure is
about 440 sq. ft with a 225 sq. ft. deck, with a king bed
and a day bed. This bure is ideal for a couple with one
child.
Oceanfront bures - Oceanfront bures are about 440 sq.
ft. with a 225 sq. ft. deck including a hammock. Offering
privacy and water views, this bure provides one king bed and
one day bed. Perfect for a couple with one child.
Oceanfront Suite Bures - Designed for honeymoon
couples or a family of four or five, each oceanfront suite
bure offers privacy and splendid views. Featuring approx.
540 sq.ft. with a large patio, these bures have one king bed
in the main area, one king bed in a separate area and one
day bed.
Oceanfront 2-bedroom bures - Ideal for a family of
four or five who want ocean views, comfort, and more
privacy, the bure offers two bedrooms and small sitting area
in the main bedroom. The main bedroom features one king bed
and one day bed. The smaller second bedroom provides two
twin beds. The bure is approx. 542 sq. ft. with a deck of
168 sq. ft.
Point Reef Bures - Set apart from the resort in a
secluded area but with easy access to all we offer, these
private bures are our newest and most spacious -- ideal for
honeymoon couples and romantic getaways. Each bure features
about 750 sq. ft plus a 200 sq. ft deck, with one king bed
on the upper level and two separate day beds on the lower
level or sitting area. All offer spectacular ocean views
from the living room and bedroom. Children are welcome in
these bures only during school holidays, including summer
vacation.
Honeymoon Point Reef Bure with Spa Tub - This
one-of-a-kind bure is the finest we offer. Similar to the
Point Reef bures, this bure features its own private spa tub
on the deck overlooking the sea. Located on the point among
secluded gardens, it's an oasis of private indulgence --
perfect for honeymoon couples. |
