HONEYMOON TIMELINE
The wedding
planning process can be one of the most hectic and stressful times of your
life. There's so much to think about and plan, sometimes it can seem pretty
overwhelming. If you're not sure when you should start planning your
honeymoon, you can use this timeline as a guide to make planning your
honeymoon easier and stress-free. After all, this is your wedding, and
you're supposed to have fun!
The Time-line:
6 - 12 Months from the honeymoon:
There are several places to start planning. Try our Destinations section.
Browse major regions or find information on specific destination cities and
hotels. Check out maps, review destination information, and learn about
hotel amenities, tours, and favorite local activities. Also, check out
Selecting a Honeymoon Location.
Set a
budget. If you're looking for specials, visit our Hot Deals page. You can
find national and regional specials, as well as weekly hot deals from
specific origin cities. Also, check out Top 10 Money Saving Tips.
Plan your
vacation as far in advance as possible and compare midweek and weekend
departure prices. Price morning departures and then late departures to get a
feel for off-peak pricing. Price a vacation with a weekend stay-over. If
your schedule is flexible, try to travel during non-peak times. When you
book, you can also purchase Complete Vacation Coverage, which provides a
lowest advertised price guarantee.
When you're ready to book, you can print out your itinerary and take it to
your local travel agent. Or book online from many origin cities. Please
note, prices and availability are subject to change if not booked at the
time you make your search.
Traveling
with a new name? Click here. You'll receive your confirmation online after
completing your reservation. Your confirmation lists your itinerary and the
features you've purchased. It also includes your reservation number and
password. Be sure to record both your reservation number and password and
keep them in a safe place. An easy way to do this is to print the
confirmation page from the website. Also remember to check your reservation
the day before departure to get the latest flight schedule. A written
confirmation will be immediately sent to you via first class mail. Your
final travel itinerary will be mailed via first class mail 14-21 days prior
to your departure date.
Things to think about when you book: Get your seat assignments, order
special in-flight meals, and check luggage allowances, reserve a rental car
or book a tour.
3 Months from the honeymoon:
Obtain your Passports and visas, if necessary.
A government issued photo I.D. is required and must match the name on the
reservation. For international travel, acceptable forms of proof of
citizenship for U.S. citizens are: - A valid passport (required for Europe,
Great Britain, Central America and Belize) - OR - A certified state-issued
(not hospital issued) birth certificate and a government issued photo ID
(both are required) - OR - A certified naturalization certificate and a
government issued photo ID (both are required).
Buy your tickets with your maiden name. It will take about 3 weeks to get a
copy of your marriage certificate.
Apply for your passport under your maiden name. Once you receive your
marriage certificate, you can get a Passport Amendment/Validation
Application. Go to the nearest passport agency and you will receive an
updated passport in about three weeks. Married women traveling under any
name other than what is printed on their documentation must supply a
marriage license. For travel to Central America and Belize, a visa may also
be required. Please contact the local embassy for further information.
2 Months from the honeymoon:
Register for a camera and luggage if you don't have them to capture all your
honeymoon memories.
1 Month from the honeymoon:
Create a list of things you need for your trip
Re-confirm all reservations
Make accommodations for your pets (if needed)
Make sure you will have any prescriptions needed
Your final travel itinerary will be mailed via first class mail 14-21 days
prior to your departure date. Some vacations require only that you present
your itinerary and approved form(s) of identification when you arrive at the
airport. For vacations requiring actual tickets (scheduled air and some
charter vacations) that are booked 15 or more days prior to the departure
date, tickets will also be sent to you via first class mail. For vacations
booked 4-14 days prior to the departure date, other time-sensitive
itinerary/ticket delivery options will automatically be selected by the
reservation system.
2 Weeks from the honeymoon:
Tickets and all applicable vouchers should be available from your travel
agent. Double check all information to make sure it is correct.
Buy Traveler's Checks (if needed)
Exchange money (if needed)
1 Week from the honeymoon:
Hold your mail at the post office
Photocopy your passport, travelers checks, and any other important
paperwork. Give one set to a relative and put the other set in a safe
deposit box.
Start thinking about what you need to pack.
