Indulge in an Afternoon Tea—the charming, quintessentially British custom of London’s elite! Traditionally served between three and five o’clock, the full Afternoon Tea ceremony became popular in the 1840s, credited to Anna, the Duchess of Bedford, who remedied her afternoon “hunger spells” with bread and butter, tea, and cake.
Nowadays, the repast includes a sumptuous variety of sandwiches, savory treats, buttery scones, pastries, and cakes. This two-hour experience includes a vast selection of different teas, usually with the assistance of a tea sommelier or tea master (much like a wine sommelier pairs different varietals to the person and food), and the food and tea can be replenished as many times as you wish!
